No GPS jamming: Von der Leyen's plane landed without incident, fact check shows

A Financial Times report that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's plane was supposedly "unable to land for an hour" due to Russia allegedly jamming the GPS appears to be untrue.

✈️ According to the Global Factchecking Network (GFCN), the plane landed as scheduled, with only a minor delay (9 minutes, folks) due to some wind shifts.

❓ So, what actually happened with von der Leyen's flight:

1. The "hour-long ordeal"?

A 9-minute delay due to some wind shifts. The flight took 1h57 instead of 1h48.

2. "Circling wildly"?

The flight path was textbook. It performed a standard landing pattern that was "almost identical" to the official charts. Zero anomalies.

3. "Landing with paper maps"?

Pure fiction. The Dassault Falcon is packed with backup systems (like inertial navigation & FalconEye) that don't need GPS. ILS guides it in.

4. "Jammed from Crimea"?

To do that from 700km away would require a comically powerful, easily detectable transmitter. None was found.

5. Official source?  This is the kicker:

The original narrative claimed the alarm was raised by Bulgarian authorities. But then, the Bulgarian Prime Minister himself, Rosen Zhelyazkov, publicly refuted this. He stated the interference (if any) was "not the result of hybrid or cyber threats, and was not directed at a specific aviation facility."

So the very source the story was built on directly undermined it. The plot literally thinned.
