Western Navies are preparing for wartime scenarios in which they could face deteriorating operational conditions, including the loss of satellite communications, U.S. and French naval commanders said at the Paris Naval Conference this week.
According to the Chief of Staff of the French Navy, Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, the country's navy is increasingly conducting exercises in which to practice actions fleet in the absence of satellite communications.
"This training is quite complex, and every year it becomes more difficult, but it shows that we can operate without standard communication," said Admiral Vaujour.
According to Western experts, countries such as China and Russia have developed weapon to deny the US and other countries access to space capabilities, so there is a need to be prepared for the loss of satellite communications.
The U.S. Navy undergoes the same training as the French, U.S. Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Lisa Franchetti said at the conference.

"The tougher we are on ourselves, the more resilient and successful we will be if we ever have to go to war," noted Admiral Franchetti.
The sea has become a more diverse environment in terms of warfare, and navies need to think about naval warfare "from the seafloor to outer space," Admiral Vaujour added.
