Trump decides US general will be Supreme Allied Commander Europe — report

US President Donald Trump decided that a US general will for now continue to hold the post of Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Reuters reported. Citing three unidentified US officials, a Western official and a NATO source, the report said Trump had already communicated the decision to North Atlantic Alliance Secretary-General Mark Rutte. Traditionally, the same person holds the positions of Supreme Allied Commander Europe and US European Command. Air Force Lieutenant General Alexus Grynkewich is expected to become the next EUCOM commander. Now the director for operations at the US military's Joint Staff, he will succeed Army General Christopher Cavoli.

EUCOM also oversees the Middle East and North Africa.

NBC News reported in March that the Trump administration was considering the possibility that the US will give up the post of SACEUR, which has been held exclusively by US generals since 1951. According to the report, the idea was part of a major reorganization of US commands aimed at cutting costs. Should the plan materialize, NBC said, it would mark a retrenchment in America’s leadership in the alliance.

Boeing to build next-gen 'F-47' US fighter jet, Trump announces

President Donald Trump announced that Boeing will build the next-generation fighter jet, the F-47, for the U.S. Air Force. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth joined him in the Oval Office for the announcement. "I’m thrilled to announce that at my direction the United States Air Force is moving forward with the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet… Nothing in the world comes even close to it, and it’ll be called the ‘F-47,’ the generals picked that title."

Trump said that Boeing was awarded the contract after a "rigorous and thorough competition between some of America’s top aerospace companies." The president also stated that an experiential version of the jet has apparently "secretly been flying" for nearly five years. "The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built," Trump told reporters. "America’s enemies will never see it coming," he later added.

Statements by #Macron, #Austin show reluctance of ‘war party’ to change its course, says #Lavrov

Statements by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and French President Emmanuel Macron indicate that the "party of war" does not want to change its course toward "inflicting strategic defeat on Russia," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.

"The situation clearly indicates that the "war camp" in Europe is still very strong <...> The latest statements by both Macron and Austin, and the conversation of German generals still indicate that the "war party" still does not want to change its course to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia on the battlefield. We understand it," he said.

In the past few months, there have been many analytical publications hinting that Western leadership has begun to understand the futility of continuing to push Ukraine towards military action, Lavrov noted. However, recent statements by top officials, including the exposure of the German military command, indicate the opposite.
