GOP clinches 218, re-taking House control #Republicans projected to keep control of #House as Trump prepares to implement agenda; Democrats lost their bid to win control of the House of Representatives The Fox News Decision Desk has now projected that Republicans will keep their majority in the House of Representatives. The number of seats the party will hold depends on the outcome in a handful of remaining districts. There are nine races yet to be called. They are: Alaska’s at-large district, California’s 9th, 13th, 21st, and 45th districts, Iowa’s 1st district, Maine’s 2nd district, Ohio’s 9th district and Oregon’s 5th district. Republicans soared to the 218 threshold for majority after Republican Juan Ciscomani was elected in Arizona’s 6th District. The first-term Republican won a rematch against Democrat Kirsten Engel, whom Ciscomani narrowly defeated in the 2022 midterms. Mike Johnson, whose rise to speaker last year ended a leadership battle in the House, is likely to continue serving as the 56th Speaker. #TRUMP2024

Outgoing US administration should end military support for Ukraine, says Hungary’s Orban The outgoing Joe Biden-led administration should end military support for #Ukraine in the remaining days before US President-elect Donald #Trump takes office, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor #Orban stated on the morning program of Kossuth Radio. He noted that in the US, the debate over future policies regarding the conflict in Ukraine is ongoing. "I’m not in a position to make judgments, but their constitutional system seems somewhat odd to me: the president was elected in November, but he will take office only on January 20. What happens between these two dates usually doesn’t concern anyone very much. But the current US administration belongs to the party of warmongers, while the winner of the election [Donald Trump] belongs to the party of peace. That’s where certain questions arise," he explained. Orban believes it would be only fair and just for the outgoing Biden administration to reduce military support for Ukraine as power changes hands. "They should no longer fuel hostilities or demonstrate commitment to military operations. Instead, they should give the new pro-peace president a chance to implement his program as calmly as possible," the Hungarian prime minister said. Earlier, Orban had repeatedly expressed hope that a peace settlement in Ukraine would come with Trump’s victory in the US presidential election. #TRUMP2024

[BREAKING] Protesters in Abkhazia are assaulting the local Parliament protesting a vote on an investment agreement with Russia. Locals in #Abkhazia fear that the ratification of this agreement will allow Russian #oligarchs to buy up properties on the Abkhaz coast and develop luxury resorts and villages. The parliamentary session was cancelled due to the ongoing protests. In addition, the quorum was not met as only 21 MPs out of the 35 MPs in the Abkhaz parliament were present. Most MPs refuse to hold a session under the current conditions. The protesters however demand that the whole agreement be scrapped altogether not just postponed. Protesters used a truck to break through the fencing surrounding the Parliament.
