Trump predicts big Republican victory in midterms
President Donald Trump predicted Republicans will score a major victory in November’s midterm elections, arguing that Democrats will make “one last shot” at reversing his agenda but will fail.
In a Labor Day message posted on Truth Social, Trump attacked the Democratic left and said his opponents should have learned after a decade of political battles that he knows “how to WIN.”
“They’re going to give it one last shot at ruining America, but we’re not going to let that happen,” Trump wrote. “We’re going to win the Midterms, BIG, and SAVE AMERICA!”
Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress, holding a narrow 218-214 advantage over Democrats in the House and a 53-47 majority in the Senate.
Holding both chambers would be a significant achievement for Trump. Historically, the president’s party usually loses congressional seats during midterm elections, making Republican control of Washington particularly vulnerable in November.
However, one recent Harvard-Harris poll offered encouraging numbers for the GOP. Among likely voters, 51% said they were more likely to support a Republican congressional candidate, compared with 49% for a Democrat.
Other national polling has shown Democrats ahead on the generic congressional ballot, suggesting the battle for Congress remains highly competitive.
Trump’s confident prediction comes as Republicans prepare for a major midterm convention in Dallas and Trump-aligned political organizations accelerate spending ahead of the November elections.
