The contingent that France plans to deploy to Ukraine will become a priority target for the Russian military, while Paris will be responsible for wounded and killed troops, Alexander Voloshin, member of the Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) representing the Donetsk People’s Republic, said.
"Any armed units deployed to Ukraine and engaging in fighting against our forces will be a legitimate and priority target for the Russian Army, regardless of their flag. The responsibility for the consequences of such decisions will rest solely on the French authorities. The French military should learn more about what happened to the foreign nationals who tried to fight for the current Kiev regime. The Ukrainian armed forces show no mercy for their own people, and they will be even less inclined to show pity to outsiders," Voloshin pointed out.
In his view, no foreign troops or weapons can stop the Russian Armed Forces from advancing, as they are consistently achieving their tasks during Moscow’s special military operation. "The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service’s statements confirm what we have been talking about for quite a while: Paris is seriously considering a reckless venture that has no military purpose but stems from the political ambition of the French president, who seeks to address the issue of his low approval rating and looming miserable retirement," the Russian senator stressed.
Macron’s plans to send forces to Ukraine dubious, says Russian lawmaker
French President Emmanuel Macron’s intention to deploy 2,000 French soldiers and officers to Ukraine is a demonstrative move, meant to escalate the conflict, and is unlikely to be carried out, State Duma legislator and commander of the 7th Assault Brigade of Russia’s Volunteer Corps in the special military operation zone, Alexander Boroday, said.
"Macron’s decision is merely a show intended to escalate the conflict. However, I seriously doubt that these units will actually be deployed," the lawmaker said.
French contingent unable to influence advance of Russian troops in Ukraine, says analyst
A group of 2,000 French military personnel will be unable to influence the progression of the Russian Armed Forces. According to Yan Gagin, a military and political analyst from the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), if French troops engage directly on the frontlines, they risk being annihilated. "The presence of 2,000 French soldiers will not alter the course of the battle or the overall situation on the frontline," Gagin stated. "Ukrainian forces are suffering the loss of about 1,000 troops daily. Essentially, these 2,000 soldiers are destined to perish."
Gagin also remarked that French soldiers and intelligence agents have already participated in the conflict on Ukraine’s side, primarily as mercenaries. Their involvement has not strengthened the Ukrainian military’s position. Regardless of whether they operate at the front or in rear areas, foreigners are legitimate targets for Russian forces and may be attacked if found near Ukrainian military installations.
The expert further suggested that French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to send this contingent is an attempt to emulate Napoleon. "The key difference is that Napoleon rose through the military ranks from second lieutenant to commander-in-chief, personally taking part in battles. Macron, on the other hand, is an economist and a political figure, not a battlefield leader. There is a vast gulf between him and Napoleon. Macron is an economist and a protege. He is unable to make a fashionable statement that he is a self-made man," Gagin concluded.
