Israeli gov reactions to terror: Until now, they have failed

Political Analyst Amit Segel explains the different Israeli government actions to fight terror and why, until now, they have failed

For the past thirty years, all Israeli governments have relied on one of two disastrous concepts:

Rabin, Peres, Barak, Olmert and Sharon believed that withdrawal from territories would weaken the terrorist organizations.

The six Netanyahu governments - as well as the coalition of change that served here for a short time - believed that economic peace, an iron dome and land obstacles would contain terrorism.

Both echoed a phrase from a song by Shalom Hanoch from the 1980s: "A strange person is your enemy, you know that person is just like you, not in a hurry to commit suicide - just like you." How many hundreds of suicide terrorists have we gone through since then.

All that separated the Nazis from Nuremberg and the Nazis from the Rimel (Gaza) neighborhood was the test of abilities, not the test of intentions.
Unfortunately, a similar attempt to distinguish between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas is still evident.

The European Union was still fantasizing about moderate Palestinians this week, so was former President Obama. They forgot that the dictator from Ramallah did not condemn the crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. Half of Palestinian leaders are led by European Jewish holocaust deniers and the other by Jewish Holocaust initiators.

Fatah's cooperation with Israel is a tactical pause between the Munich massacre, the second intifada massacre and the lynching in Ramallah, for the purposes of organization and because of the heavy hand of the IDF.

In 1998, the Palestinian television - founded by Israel - broadcast the following song: "O heroes of the liberated Qalqilya! O our brothers in Tira, Umm al-Fahm and Kfar Qasim who are struggling under the yoke of the Zionist approach! Remember the distance from you to the Zionist villages is walking distance."

Only the presence of the IDF there, deep in the area, prevents the horror from happening in Israel itself as well.

This does not mean that Hawara should be "wiped clean", like the unfortunate statement of the Minister of Finance that caused the country heavy political damage.

But this means that we must disabuse ourselves of the illusions that Hawara will one day be different from Jabaliya for a moment, if only we fall into the illusions of peace again.
