The Houthis remain the most active offensive front against Israel to this day,
and rumors of expected Israeli attacks are increasing.
The Houthi movement, officially the Ansar Allah, is a Zaydi Shia Islamist political and military organization that emerged from Yemen in the 1990s.
It is predominantly made up of Zaydi Shias, with their namesake leadership being drawn largely from the Houthi tribe.
The group has been a central player in Yemen's civil war, drawing widespread international condemnation for its human rights abuses, including targeting civilians and using child soldiers.
The movement is designated as a terrorist organization by some countries.
Get to know the individuals operating among the Houthis, so that if we wake up to a morning of assassinations, we will know how to connect names to the picture and role:
-
- Abdel Malek al-Houthi - the leader of the organization.
- Mahdi al-Mishaat, head of the Supreme Council.
- Muhammad al-Attaf, Minister of Defense.
- Muhammad Abdel Nabi, Commander of the Navy.
- Muhammad al-Ramaari, Commander of the Army.
- Yahya al-Sariya, the "face" of the Houthis, the spokesman who is mainly engaged in psychological warfare.
