On October 7, 2023, Hamas took 251 hostages.
Since then, 154 people have been rescued and returned.
As of December 2, 2024, Hamas is still holding 101 hostages in Gaza:
97 hostages were abducted on October 7, 2023, and four others were taken beforehand since 2014.
Bodies of hostages held by Hamas:
37 bodies of hostages are being held by Hamas in Gaza, including:
two kidnapped in 2014: the late Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul and the bodies of 35 others taken on October 7, 2023.
Hostages in Hamas captivity taken on October 7th:
- 97 people were kidnapped during the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, and are still being held captive by Hamas.
- This includes 84 men, 13 women, and two children under the age of five, of which there are 87 Israelis and 10 foreign nationals (eight from Thailand, one from Nepal, and one from Tanzania).
- The bodies of 35 hostages are being held by Hamas in Gaza (including one from Tanzania and two from Thailand).
154 hostages were either released or rescued:
- Four Israelis were released before the “outline” deal with Hamas, and one was rescued by IDF soldiers.
- 81 Israelis and 24 foreign nationals were released during the “outline” deal with Hamas, from November 24, 2023, to November 30, 2023.
- 34 hostages were murdered by Hamas, and their bodies were returned to Israel by the IDF.
- Three hostages were accidentally killed by the IDF.
- Operation Golden Hand - On February 12, 2024, security forces in Rafah rescued Louis Har (71) and Fernando Marma (61), both of whom were kidnapped from Nir Yitzhak by Hamas on October 7th.
- Operation Arnon - On June 8, 2024, security forces operating in the center of Nuseirat rescued Noa Argamani (25), Almog Meir (21), Andrey Kozlov (27), and Shlomi Ziv (40), who were kidnapped by Hamas from the Nova music festival site on October 7th and taken to the Gaza Strip.
- On August 27, 2024, the IDF and Israel Security Agency conducted a complex rescue operation in the southern Gaza Strip and rescued the hostage, Farhan Kadi.
The State of Israel continues to do everything in its power to bring back all 101 hostages - the living and the deceased alike, among them women, children, and elderly, who are cruelly held, for over 400 days in Hamas captivity.
