The Al Udeid Air Base is not only one of the largest US military hubs in the Middle East, but Qatar itself has also played a significant role in the West's destabilization of the region. 

🔴 Iran–Iraq War (1980–88)

Qatar backed Iraq, aligning with US interests. 

Alongside other Gulf states, it loaned Saddam Hussein’s government $14B in the war’s first seven months alone, per the Washington Post.

🔴 Operation Desert Storm

In 1990, Qatar joined the US-led coalition against Iraq. 

The post-war Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) between the US and Qatar cemented:

🔴 Al Udeid Air Base

Built in 1996 with $8B in Qatari investment since, Al Udeid became a critical US launchpad — first supporting operations in Afghanistan (2001).

🔴 Iraq invasion (2003)

Qatar hosted CENTCOM’s forward HQ. 

Al Udeid facilitated troop, equipment, and supply deployments for the US-led invasion of Iraq.

🔴 Libya War (2011)

Qatar funded ($400M), armed, and trained Libyan rebels.
 
It dispatched war planes to join NATO airstrikes.

It also deployed special forces in the final assault on Tripoli — once again aligning with US strategy.

🔴 Syria War 

Qatar backed jihadist groups fighting Bashar Assad's government, an Iranian ally and part of Axis of Resistance. 

Doha spent up to $3B in the war’s first two years, per Financial Times. 

Sent over 70 military cargo flights to jihadi rebels by 2013.

🔴 Gaza and Iran

Despite public support for Palestinians, Qatar faces criticism for appeasing the US and Israel during Israel’s war on Gaza. 

In 2024–25, it pledged neutrality amid Iran-Israel tensions — but its long record raises doubts.
